How do you defend workplace discrimination based on sexual orientation?
How do you defend workplace discrimination based on sexual orientation when there are already laws which enable religious denominations to exclude homosexuals from employment or participation in their religious institutions?
A common argument in opposition to legislation prohibiting discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation is that lawsuits would be brought en masse against religious organizations, and that they would be forced to act in contravention of their doctrines. So when there are laws already assuring those religious institutions that their prerogatives will be protected, then what arguments are left to oppose legislation prohibiting sexual orientation-based discrimination?
I am asking out of genuine curiosity, as I want to better understand the positions of those opposed to such legislation.

One problem is that when Republicans tried to include an express exception for pedophilia the Democrats voted against it.
I don’t know, it makes no sense to me. A person is a person, regardless their sex, race, religion, sexual orientation, etc. and are all entitled to the same opportunities.
That said, what gets me is why East Indians in my neck of the woods are allowed to ride motorcycles without helmets because the turbine is part of their religion.
Simple. Use Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. They have to obey the law no matter what their religious preferences are.
it is a legal conundrum. The courts have to decide which is more important: religious freedom, or antidiscrimination. It is definitely defendable, what will decide the issue is the political leanings of the judge… or possibly, the prowess of the lawyers.
