What are some ways to deal with discrimination based on sexual orientation?

I am writing a paper over the different methods of coping with this form of discrimination and their effectiveness. I have 3 methods already but I would love to hear some other peoples ideas.

Thanks in advance for any help you may be able to give.

Educating people about sexual orientation and gender identity. The reason that they are afraid of it is because the don’t understand it or haven’t ever been exposed to it or maybe both. If you want percentages, ect. on discriminaton, google glsen.org 2007 national school climate report. Also, something going on right now in the media is that Tennessee schools block GLBT websites and are getting sued for it.

The way i’ve deal with it… in the past… If i’m forced to deal with it or live along side people that don’t have the same understanding, I try to educate them from a distance. Never get angry or violent, because the last thing the world needs is another war. Mutual friends that don’t discriminate is a big help.

But if it effects ones well-being, safety, and/or health, action should be taken with regulations. Keep the law in mind.
